【Course Overview】：
This immersive course equips helpline professionals with the knowledge, frameworks, and tools needed to provide effective, safe, and evidence-informed crisis support in today’s digital context.

Topic includes:

1. What Works and Why?
   • Explore research-backed appraoches to effective crisis care on helplines. Understand thow neurological responses during a crisis influence behaviour, and how targeted de-escalation strategies can support callers in distress.
2. The C.A.P.E Model of Crisis Intervention
   A structured and adaptable framework to guide crisis conversations:
   • Connection – Establishing trust and presence
   • Assessment – Identifying key risk and protective factors
   • Planning Care Collaboratively – Co-developing next steps with the person in crisis
   • Extending Care and Support – Maintaining safety until stability or referral is achieved
3. Role Plays and Practice
   • Hands-on exercises to reinforce practical application of theory enhance confidence, and build skill in real-time response.
4. Individual and Cultural Beliefs in Suicide Prevention
   • Understand how personal values and cultural perspectives impact crisis response, and how to apporach each interaction with cultural humility and awareness.
5. Suicide Risk Assessment
   • Learn the core components of risk assessment in a helpline setting – its purpose, key considerations, and common limitations.
6. Suicidal Drivers and Prevention Drivers
   • Dive into the psychological, social, and environmental factors that increase or mitigate suicide risk, and how to work with these in practice.
7. Lethal Means Counselling
   • Explore practical techniques for reducing access to means, with a focus on what’s feasible and effective during phone or digital interventions.
8. Safety Planning and Follow-Up
   • Evidence-based approaches to collaboratively create safety plans, including strategies to ensure follow-up and continuity of care
9. Quality Monitoring
   • Introduction to tools and techniques for monitoring call quality, supporting counsellors, and ensuring consistent, high-quality crisis intervention.
